WESTABOU MONTESSORI SCHOOL

Westabou Montessori School is an urban farm school that incorporates farm-to-school activities at every level. Our school is located in a "food swamp" where there is little to no access to healthy produce or food but are inundated with fast food chains. We aim to make sure our students and families have access to quality, organic meals on a daily basis. Our nutrition program is grown right on campus using sustainable and organic practices. We also compost 100% of all of our kitchen waste. Children are part of every facet of our garden and nutrition programs-planting, tending, harvesting, preparing, cooking, and preservation of the foods we grow. Whether they are learning to peel carrots, classify plants by their leaves and roots, introduce mineral supplements to our hydroponics garden, or learn the names of the veggies--kids are learning so much in our garden!
